The 13th of February 2018, marked 10 years since the National Apology to the Stolen Generations by the Australian Government. We have participated in the National Apology since 2008 and continue to do so each year.
Ten years on, the Apology anniversary means a chance to keep the fire burning for future generations.
The Healing Foundation highlighted the National Apology for our Board Members this year. The Board Members travelled to Canberra and took part in a special anniversary breakfast hosted by the Healing Foundation in partnership with Message Stick and Reconciliation Australia at Parliament House. Kevin Rudd was in attendance.
The Board Members also participated in Yarning Circles which assisted the Healing Foundation with the Action Plan for Healing. Grant Sarra facilitated the Yarning Circles.
The Apology concert commenced at 6pm and with some of our favourite acts including Archie Roach and Shellie Morris. The Board Members enjoyed the VIP tent near the stage which was a highlight for all.
The Coota Girls Corporation would like to thank the Healing Foundation for highlighting the 10th Anniversary of the National Apology and what this means to the Stolen Generations. It enabled us to reflect on the true meaning of “I am sorry”. Our children and Grandchildren are our focus to be there for them as this is their story.
